The Short Story Contest

Everyone loves a good story and the one we usually remember the most is the story that takes us into its world. Browse through the story elements below and get your creative juices ready to write that story that has been incessantly knocking on your door.

You must use the following elements in the Short Story you submit. Submissions open on OCTOBER 31st, 2017 and close on DECEMBER 31st, 2017.

The Story World

  • choose an existing haunted place
  • choose a photograph or art that symbolizes the haunted place
  • the photograph or art is the gateway into this haunted place

The Theme

  • lost soul(s) of a family cannot let go of the place due to a tragic event
  • being lost and leaving something/someone behind

The Characters

  • the new owners barely manage to stay there for a few days at a time
  • one of the characters is an architect
  • the new owners are a young married couple with twins
  • the twins can see the lost souls

Rules

  • Submissions are only accepted during OCTOBER 31st, 2017 - DECEMBER 31st, 2017.
  • Entries must be submitted ONLINE only.
  • Stories must not exceed 50 pages.
  • Contest is open to emerging writers worldwide who are not signed to a major publisher.
  • The short story must be the contestant's original work and contestant must own all copyright.
  • Contestants retain all ownership rights to the short story.
  • Entry into the short story contest constitutes permission to use contestants' name, likeness, images for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation.
  • The winners agree to allow TABOR to use their names, photographs and short story titles on the website. This will be used to inform other contestants and the media of the contest results.
  • The decision of the judges are final. All judges and sponsors are immune from any competition disputes.
  • If necessary, we can extend the final deadline of the competition. All information will be kept updated on the website.
  • Five Winners will be announced in MARCH, 2018.
  • There is no submission fee.
